Jongmyo Shrine is the best shrine to symbolize Joseon along with Sajikdan Shrine. It was built before Gyeongbokgung Palace, and the memorial tablets of the kings of the past are celebrated every year.

Jongmyo Shrine is the only place in the world where the tradition of royal ancestral rites, which has continued for more than 500 years, is alive, along with the unique architecture of a solemn atmosphere. In recognition of these historical and cultural values, Jongmyo Shrine was listed as a ‘World Cultural Heritage’ in 1995 and Jongmyo Jeryeak and Jongmyo Jeryeak as a ‘Mankind’s oral and intangible heritage masterpiece’ in 2001.
